The NSW Department of Education’s Schools Spectacular is a high-profile performing arts event involving the participation of over 6,000 public school children and young people.
The annual two-day event is staged at Qudos Bank Arena on the last Friday and Saturday in November. It comprises matinee and evening performances, attracts arena audiences of 25,000 people and is recorded for a televised broadcast nationally.
The objective is to provide an individual or organisation capable of developing the lighting specifications, lighting design and the lighting direction/operation for the Schools Spectacular live arena production and subsequent television broadcast, whilst working closely with the Department’s Schools Spectacular Production team
It is anticipated that the planning as outlined in the scope will commence as soon as the successful respondent is contracted.
The Supplier will work under the direction of the Executive Producer and the Arena Production Manager
The scope of work for the Lighting Designer / Director is to:
· Design a lighting system to suit the needs of the arena production, the subsequent television broadcast within budget
· Provide CAD drawings of the lighting design
· Develop specifications for potential suppliers for quotation purposes.
· Provide guidance in the negotiations with the lighting supplier.
· Attend pre-production meetings and briefings as required.
· Meet regarding the specific lighting requirements and effects for specific segments.
· Attend the preliminary combined rehearsal.
· Be across all aspects of the bump in and installation of the lighting system at the venue.
· Coordinate the previsualization of the lighting of the show.
· Supply and coordinate spot caller and board operator.
· Liaise with creative team and screen graphics contractor.
· Supervise the lighting team during production week.
· Fulfil the role of the lighting designer/director
· Liaise and interface with the lighting director for the television broadcast production
· Attend post event evaluation
