Transport Asset Manager of New South Wales (TAM) seeks to identify tourism operators capable of delivering a high-quality, immersive visitor experience within the historic, disused rail tunnels at St James in Sydney.
Recently installed safety equipment, communication systems and multimedia devices now enable safe public access to the State Heritage Listed tunnels which have lain idle since construction in the 1920s.
Used as wartime air raid shelters, and part of JJC Bradfield’s visionary plan for Sydney’s rail network, the tunnels are accessed from St James station concourse and extend 600 metres under Hyde Park.Beyond the norm, and beyond a heritage experience, the tunnels are a unique time capsule of Sydney’s development. A tourism opportunity akin to others -worldwide – yet new and like no other in Sydney.
TAM is seeking experienced, proficient and innovative operators able to deliver, optimise and grow this new, underground Sydney CBD visitor experience – rich with history, mystique and urban adventure.
