SIRA is seeking to partner with a multidisciplinary organisation to undertake action-oriented research that identifies and supports the role of General Practitioners in the NSW personal injury schemes

Project goals

SIRA is committed to identifying best practices and supporting GPs through practical, evidence-informed solutions. This research project aims to:

  • Examine the challenges faced by GPs treating physical and psychological injuries within the Schemes
  • Examine the challenges faced by people with injuries accessing the Schemes and requiring GP support
  • Generate innovative, evidence-based recommendations to inform future policy development
  • Clarify and enhance the role of GPs in each of the Schemes through targeted strategies
  • Bridge collaborative gaps between GPs, people with an injury, insurers, employers, and other stakeholders.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

  • Conducting a discovery phase to explore the end-to-end experience of GPs in the Schemes, including early intervention, certification, communication, and collaboration
  • Engaging with key stakeholders GPs, insurers, employers, and people with an injury to identify pain points, enablers, and opportunities for improvement
  • Analysing the impact of administrative burden, scheme complexity, and communication gaps on GP participation and patient outcomes
  • Engagement with the Certificate of Capacity / Certificate of Fitness review team and relevant stakeholder cohorts must occur to align research insights and implementation strategies
  • Reviewing existing tools, policies, and resources across jurisdictions and identifying best practice models that can be adapted to the NSW context
  • Developing evidence-informed recommendations to support policy, process, and practice improvements
  • Co-designing practical tools and resources that are accessible, scalable, and aligned with GP workflows
  • Proposing strategies to improve health literacy, stakeholder collaboration, and access to essential information and support
