The Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) has made targeted investments to improve heat tolerance in wheat, recognising the growing challenge of temperature extremes for Australian grain production. The goal of these investments is to deliver breeding-relevant tools, traits, and knowledge to support the development of wheat varieties with improved yield stability under heat stress. The current suite of four projects, due to conclude in March 2027, reflects a multidisciplinary approach across physiology, molecular biology, genetics, and crop development. The GRDC is seeking a panel of expert consultants to undertake a technical review of the current research projects and provide recommendations of future RD&E requirements to improve the heat tolerance of Australian wheat. Recommendations in the form of a report and presentation will be required by the end of June 2026.
