The Department of Health, Disability and Ageing is seeking to engage a contractor to establish a national support unit for implementation of First Nations Maternal and Child Health services funded under the Indigenous Australians’ Health Programme. From 1 July 2026, the 15 sites who were delivering the old Australian Family Partnership Program will transition to bespoke, First Nations-led maternal and child health models of care. To enable the best outcomes for these sites, as well as other Indigenous Australians’ Health Programme funded maternal and child health investments (such as Birthing on Country and other bespoke investments) the new support unit will deliver national coordination, workforce development, training and education, facilitate establishment of governance mechanisms and lead quality improvement to ensure consistent, high-quality implementation across all funded models of care.
