Australia has provided support to the Kiribati skills and workforce development (TVET) sector since 2010 through the Kiribati Australia Skills for Employment Partnership, Kiribati Facility, Kiribati TVET Sector Strengthening Program and Australia Awards. Two features of the Australia–Kiribati partnership in skills and workforce development have been the upskilling of the national TVET workforce and increased short term and long-term labour mobility opportunities for I-Kiribati workers in Australia. The new Pathways to Employment Readiness for Maiuraoim investment (PERforM), (up to $37 million over 10 years) will build on these successful approaches. PERforM will continue to support the implementation of quality, inclusive and increasingly sustainable TVET course delivery through the Kiribati Institute of Technology (KIT). The program will integrate Kiribati-based Australia Awards activities and work to promote increased Government of Kiribati (GoK) engagement and active management of the skills sector.
